Fraggle Friday-Siri’s 1 Year Anniversary

This week marked Siri’s adoptaversary! I adopted her July 11th, mainly due to this photo:

That’s her in the back

I had been patiently waiting for a young female German Wirehaired Pointer or Griffon to come into a shelter for me to adopt. But all that came in were males, time and time again.

And Siri was a purebred GWP, but she was a puppy. Yuck. Who wants a puppy?

Plus, Stella had JUST had ACL surgery so the timing was horrendous. Oh, and I was leaving for Rebecca Farm in a week.

How I got through Stella’s surgery…

Blerg. But, the thought of me passing by a female GWP haunted me. So I took her home, even though she was a puppy and I wanted a 2-3 year old dog. (or older)

She was always cute when she was sleeping…

And wouldn’t you know it, 3 weeks after I adopted her, her mom, a 2 yr old GWP was surrendered to the Shelter. EXACTLY what I had wanted.

She’s a sweetheart

And while I considered trading Siri in, it was too late. I was hooked. (And her mom got a fabulous home and I get updates on her all the time).

There have been ups and downs, and lots of frustrating moments (like when she chewed my truck up), but yes, in the end I am so glad I adopted her on July 11 2016.

She’s wicked smart

And this past weekend, when she overheated on a hike, I knew I loved her, because I hoisted her up on my shoulders and carried her down the mountain.

At least she’s light?

I like to think she’d do the same for me…

So, Happy Gotcha Day Siri. So glad you’ve joined our crew.

Fraggle Friday

It’s not lost on me that I missed Fraggle Friday last week. My dogs were being replaced by their counterparts in NY

Clearly I have a “type.”

It’s good to be home with my girls, although they seem to have had a bit too much fun while I was gone, as they’re both pooped.

Hot weather meant it was time to break out the pool for Siri. Her favorite place to be after a good run.

Happy Fraggle Friday everyone!

Fraggle Friday

Not sure how many more hikes I’ll have with Stella so have decided to cherish every one.

She’s still hiking mountains with me and begging to go running, but she has never been good at self limiting.

The trip to Aspen was hard for her, new place, new routine. She’s happy to be back home.

I think she’s still got some great years ahead but if I want to keep her happy for the long run I should probably make the sacrifice to leave her home more often when I go on longer outings.

It’s tough leaving your constant companion and best buddy behind.

Fraggle Friday: Aspen Edition

The girls are hanging out at Aspen Farms with me helping/watching Sarah and enjoying the beauty of this place.

But it’s raining. A lot.

Which has resulted in lots of indoor time with 5 dogs in one trailer..

Both dogs have been remarkably well behaved. Just tough having them on leash always. Neither are great at the leash thing. Plus they are polar opposites and always going in different directions.

Siri has mastered the art of posing.

We’ve been having lots of fun and Siri is proving to be a good event dog. One day, in a few years, I bet she’ll be able to come when I am actually competing and need to worry about her and a horse…

Fraggle Friday

Warmer weather, sunny skies, I do believe spring is here! Yes, I know you all are in summer, but we don’t get that until about July… for 5 days…

There’s something about dogs in buckets that I find adorbs. The first picture is from Squirrel and Stella a few years ago when we went and watched the Millbrook HT and on the right we Siri the other day. I guess they know how too cool off!

And, warm weather wears Siri out. After a 7 mile run she was ready for nap time. (Me too if I’m being honest)

Warm temps mean it’s rattlesnake season so I got her a Rattlesnake vaccine and now that she has had her booster I can rest a little easier. We still try to run super early before they come out… yuck. I HATE snakes

Wishing you all a great weekend!

Fraggle Friday

Going to see Junebug kinda was the highlight of my week, and I STUPIDLY did not get a horse and puppy picture while I was up there. What was I thinking??? I’m currently petsitting 3 golden retrievers, I call them a Gaggle of Goldens. Siri is in heaven playing with all of them.

IMG_5510

I’ve been impressed with how grown up Siri has been acting lately. Last time we petsit for these dogs she was unable to settle down. EVER. This time she plays but is happy to go to bed and even sleep in with me past 5:30am, when the Goldens want to get up and be fed.

I think she’s really becoming a good dog

She’s still 100% puppy and I can see her brain deciding whether she should listen to me or not, but she’s got a good chance at becoming a great dog one day.

Stella had a good time swimming in the pond and is happy to not have to entertain Siri for a little while.

Fraggle Friday

Blah weather and lots of travel has me scouring my phone for any fraggle media, but here’s what I’ve got:

IMG_5384

I mean, really

I found Siri walking around with my conference badge and decided to make her wear it. And she totally rocked the look way better than I did.

I also scored a picture of her brother. His adopter is the surgeon who did Stella’s surgeries and it looks like he’s got it pretty good. Which makes me so happy 🙂

Winston

They’re total twinsies.

For a photo shoot we were doing I got to model with Stella and we got this cute pic. I kinda hate pics of myself, but when I’ve got my bestie in the pic with me it makes it far more bearable.

PFL 056

She has her usual thrilled look

Looking forward to a week of good weather and lots of outdoor time!
